Festival Preview: Bluedot 2018
It’s official, Bluedot is back. Held in the picturesque location of Jodrell Bank, against a backdrop of the iconic Lovell Telescope, Bluedot 2018 is taking place from 19th – 22nd July; perfect for beer drinking and mooching around the bountiful science installations in between acts.
Bluedot aims to cultivate a unifying celebration for people from every background. Having won the ‘New Festival on the Block’ and ‘Mind Blowing Spectacle Awards’ in previous years, they always bring contemporary, mind-blowing bands to their stages, show-stopping DJ’s and incredible science experiments, expert talks and immersive artworks from renowned scientists.
But what are we most excited about? The music, of course! Having released what we’re anticipating to be only a small part of their lineup thus far, it’s enough to have us excited and waiting for the whole thing. Some of the standout acts for us include Unkle, Hookworms, Baloji, Booka Shade, Public Service Broadcasting, Future Islands and our very own resident Will Tramp. Also making their return to Jodrell Bank are The Flaming Lips . And wgt are we most excited to see their name? They were the first band to ever play Jodrell Bank back… before it was Bluedot – exciting eh?!
One more thing we’re especially looking forward to is the Blue Planet in Concert with the Halle Orchestra who will be opening the festival on the brand new Thursday date. “The show combines live music against a backdrop of remarkable footage from the original Blue Planet 2001 television series produced by the acclaimed BBC Natural History Unit.”
Bluedot have also stated “Our mission is to not only erode the boundaries between science, culture, art and technology but to also highlight the beauty and fragility of our planet Earth, and what a better way to achieve this by opening proceedings with such a remarkable and enlightening spectacle. It’s going to be truly incredible and a real festival highlight. We can’t wait!”
This lineup comprises of names big and small, weird and wonderful, but nonetheless, we’re dead excited for all of them. Here’s what they’ve released so far:
