Preview: Mac DeMarco – Manchester Academy
Mac DeMarco is back in Manchester on 25th November for a sell-out gig at Manchester Academy and it’s sure to be one of the gigs of the year as it always is when he rolls into town. It’s the little rascal’s first appearance in Manchester for 2 years and since then he’s released his third studio album This Old Dog which we’re all big fans of here at MCR Live.
This Old Dog is an album we described on its release back in May as being his most mature work yet quintessentially DeMarco. The hazy guitar riffs which are synonymous with his music are there, only this time there’s more dreamy synths to go alongside them. It’s an album full of self-examination and delicate vocals almost as if DeMarco is getting nostalgic about his own life. If you haven’t given it a whirl yet then seriously what have you been doing? Go and check it out now.
Mac DeMarco gigs are renowned for getting a bit wild and debaucherous so if you’re heading to the gig, expect a hell of a lot of crowd surfing. He’s one of the few artists who you feel has a proper deep connection with his audience, like he’s on the same level as them. So much so that you can probably expect him to actually physically in the audience at some points (with his shirt off as per usual). If you need to blow off some steam from a week of work then getting down the front of this show will definitely be one way of doing that.
Mac DeMarco’s UK tour starts in London on November 17th and ends in Brighton on November 27th. His appearance at the Academy is his only date in Manchester so this is not one to be missed!
