NEWS: MCR Live 1st Birthday & Studio Launch!

After an incredible first year at MCR Live, we are celebrating our first birthday and brand new studio with an all-day free event at Ancoats General Store on Saturday 17th February. Headlined by HomoElectric and Warehouse Project regular Will Tramp and with an exclusive DJ set from Manchester alternative band Spring King, the event will also have a tap takeover from our mates over at Brooklyn Brewery!

From 3-11pm, MCR Live will be showcasing an eclectic mix consisting of their friends & resident DJs across spanning genres. Heading up the day will be one of Manchester’s finest DJs Will Tramp. Will has brought the likes of Justice, Diplo, Chromeo, and even Franz Ferdinand to Manchester and now has long standing residencies at huge events including The Warehouse Project, Parklife Festival, Homoelectric & Bugged Out and on for our first birthday will be providing a headline Disco set in the evening.

Hot off the back of a UK tour, alternative/post-punk band Spring King will be providing a DJ set. Their only date in Manchester, the guys have supported the likes of Slaves to Wolf Alice on tour and have proven themselves to be one of the best names coming out of Manchester in recent years so we’re very excited for their energy and to see what they’re going to spin! Further support comes from Dutch Uncles’ front man Duncan Wallis, Manchester institution Funkademia; the infamous Martin The Mod, Manchester hip-hop collective Beeswaxx and upcoming DJ collective Flute Salad.

But it’s not all about the music!

Brooklyn Brewery will be taking over the humble taps at Ancoats General Store, bringing a diverse range of their finest beers and playing games throughout the day. There will be a first come, first serve on £3 pints of their Scorcher IPA – don’t miss out!

Ancoats General Store has built a name for itself as one of the city’s best venues, after winning ‘Best Food and Drinks Retailer’ at the Manchester Food and Drink Awards 2017 and the Independent Achievers Award for ‘Retail Innovation’. Ancoats General Store has pretty much become our second home and we CANNOT wait to live there permanently! Now not only can you buy your local-veg, drink some artisan coffee or local beer but you’ll be able to listen to our LIVE Dj’s, be in to experience sessions and interviews all whilst eating your Scrancoats! Our new studio is currently being polished up and we’re almost certain it’s gonna blow you all away (as you can see in the video above)! The new space will be on the mezzanine above the bar and will be open during the event for attendees to look around & more.

AND WAIT… did we mention, this is all totally FREE?!

RSVP here to keep up to date with what’s going on, DJ timings & more announcements! See you there!

I pick the music on the station, organise the sessions and sort out any music stuff you see on the blog. You might also see my face from time-to-time doing a bit of that presenting and producing of "stuff".
