TRIPLE EVENT SHOWCASE: Two Bands Three Venues

Garage and psychedelic rock fans are in for a treat tonight because not only are The Oh Sees in town, but so are the cult-favourite King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Across town from each other, both gigs kick off at 7pm and finish at 11pm, which is perfect timing, because from then onwards, Remake Remodel are hosting a tribute night for both bands at the Soup Kitchen.

The Oh Sees hail from California. Their name references the O.C, an abbreviation of Orange County. The band started up twenty years ago as an acoustic band, believe it or not. After a couple of changes to the lineup they evolved their sound to become the punky garage band that we now know and love. With lead John Dwyer’s awesome stage presence and expectations of a wonderfully intense racket, The Oh Sees are sure to have Manchester Academy shaking.

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are a bit of a mixed bag. Although they can be described as  surf, garage and psychedelic rock, their more recent work has been infused with prog. rock, folk, jazz, heavy metal and soul. Having hosted and headlined Gizzfest, their very own festival, the Australian band are certainly not shy and won’t be keeping quiet tonight at the Albert Hall.

With all the excitement in the air, it’s no surprise that Remake Remodel are bringing it all in. Remake Remodel are an events company that’ve been alive and kicking for nearly seven years now. They put on the city’s best alternative nights, every Monday at Soup Kitchen, and every first Saturday of the month at The Ruby Lounge. Tonight their event will feature a midnight hour of Thee Oh Sees and King Gizz. And, if you’re wondering whether tonight’s audience is going to be as experimental as the music that’s playing, Liam from Remake Remodel reckons so: “I’d expect it to be most people coming after both gigs, most of our usual people who come to our nights in Manchester, plus some new people from other cities who have travelled to see the shows and are staying overnight in Manchester. The bands aren’t playing any other Northern UK dates, so I’d expect people from Liverpool, Leeds etc. It should be a wild one!”

Tickets for The Oh Sees are still available on Skiddle here. Unfortunately King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard have completely sold out. Never fear however, for you can catch their music tonight at the Soup Kitchen of course. Advance discount tickets for Remake Remodel are available on Skiddle here, or you can pay entry on the door at £5.
